Voices Of Restorative Justice Poem One

If Only, Only If, Even If

Collaborative Poem written by youth in detention CCYC August 2019

If only I

Didn’t get booked,

Didn’t leave the house,

Didn’t think about myself first.

If only I said

Less,

More,

Said the truth.

If only

He said you will be released.

She said stop.

If only people respected each other

The world would be a better place.

If only people would come together and stop polluting the earth

The world would be a better place.

I can be happy only if

I am true to myself,

Get released and go home.

I can be proud only if I

Accomplish my dreams,

Make my family proud,

Get my legal documents.

I can feel safe only if I

Am with people I trust.

I can change the world only if I change my self.

The world can be better only if we change some laws.

The world can be safer only if we listen to each other.

EVEN IF

The world is crazy,

I can

Still live life to the fullest.

Still stay strong.

EVEN IF

I make mistakes,

I can

Fix it,

Learn from them.

EVEN IF

Someone tries to bring me down,

I can

Pull myself back up,

Run,

Hold my ground.

EVEN IF

I get hurt or angry,

I can

Walk away,

Push through adversity.

EVEN IF

Life is hard,

I will

Cry,

Chase my dream,

BE RESILIENT.
